El primer cine real de Mallorca se creó en 1913 en Llucmajor, el Cinema Recreatiu. Este se desarrolló a partir de lo que era un café inspirado en el billar y ‘a la moda de sala de juegos en tierras americanas’. A partir de aquí surgieron otros cines, unos como el Recreatiu y otros descendientes del cine Catholic Workers (Palma 1908-1923), los cines parroquiales.
Durante la década de los 50, los años dorados del cine, en Pollença se llegaron a encontrar unas 5 salas. Entre ellas, el Cine Capitol que fue construido en 1944 por Guillem Cifre Seguí, con unos 460 asientos y una superficie útil de 230m2.
Un vida complicada en convivencia con los cines parroquiales de la Iglesia, la televisión y finalmente la competencia que surgía en otros lugares acabó con la última proyección en el Cine Capitol en 2001.
