The first real cinema in Mallorca was created in 1913 in #Llucmajor, the Cinema Recreatiu. This developed from what was a cafe inspired by billiards and 'in the style of a games room in American lands'. From here other cinemas emerged, some like the Recreatiu and others descendants of the Catholic Workers cinema (Palma 1908-1923), the parish cinemas.
During the 50s, the golden years of cinema, around 5 theaters were found in Pollença. Among them, the #Capitol Cinema, which was built in 1944 by Guillem Cifre Seguí, with about 460 seats and a useful area of 230m2.
A complicated life in coexistence with the parish cinemas of the Church, television and finally the competition that arose in other places ended with the last screening at the Capitol Cinema in 2001.
The #Pollença City Council will turn the ancient cinema Capitol into a cultural space
In principle, the works will begin wherever you see. They will install seats that can be removed for the multifunctional space.
The plenary session of POLLENÇA CITY COUNCIL will approve on 09/11/22 a credit modification to be able to undertake the rehabilitation works of the old Capitol cinema and the attached house on Antoni Maura street, which will involve an investment of 5.250.000 euros to achieve have a large multipurpose space. The project plans to reform and rehabilitate the cinema as well as adapt the ground floor and the two unused premises. In addition, the façade will be enhanced and a major structural intervention will be carried out to reinforce numerous elements of the interior.
